  1. Over-damage Removed In this update we removed the "over-damage" mechanic from combat. Previously, when the last player to hit a mob before it died it was they could receive extra credit for their damage in excess of the remaining health of the mob. For this over-damage a player would receive some extra exp and would get extra damage credit. When we changed the drop ownership system to give the chance of ownership to either first hit or most damage, this caused some issues. For example: Player 1 is attacking a monster with 1000 health. They do first hit and 700 damage. Player 2 comes and last hits the monster with a 1500 damage skill. In the old system, despite player 1 doing 70% of the monsters actual health, the over-damage system would give player two 300 damage credit + an extra 500 over damage credit for a total of 800 damage. In some cases this would allow player two to claim drop ownership! In the new system, players will only get credit for damage that actually reduced the monster's HP. In the case of this example, that means player two would only ever get 300 damage worth of credit and player one that got first hit and did the most damage would always get the drop. Game Arena Rebalancing We have adjusted the rewards for Crystal Defenders and Draconis Peaks to make then viable alternatives to Akram Arena. Currently most players play Akram Arena because it has the highest reward potential for playing and the play time is brief at 20-25 minutes. To balance Crystal Defenders we have increased the rewards for various actions taken in the game (such as killing a player or destroying a crystal) to make it a more rewarding game mode. We also increased the total maximum point reward to 500 to make it equal to Akram Arena. The number of players that can join a Draconis Peaks game is lower so we dropped the time to 10 minutes to encourage that game mode to be a "high octane" but short mode to play. We also increased the point reward pool so it is more rewarding to play with a maximum of 250 points per round. Updater We have made some long overdue updates to the updater. First, we fixed the issue which would result in the updater sometimes corrupting XML files whenever there was a new update for them. The updater also now works on all platforms when using emulation layers like Wine, Proton or Lutris. This means you will be able to update your client when running the game on MacOS, Linux or the Steamdeck by just running the updater. We also fixed a bug that prevented the updater's play button from correctly working when running it from a script. Whats next... We currently have a few active larger projects in development that we plan to release in the next few patches. We are working on the infamous "skill delay" bug which causes some players to get stuck in the casting state. We are also continuing to work on the "rubber-banding" issues in parts of Fossil Sanctuary and other maps. This month we released character and account storage coupons on the Item Mall but we are working on new content that will allow Dealers and Artisans ways to increase their storage naturally through the game. Work has started on the "unique skill reset" problem and a re-balancing of exp across all zones is in progress. Finally we have some exciting initiatives on the graphics front and user interface front that will open up some new horizons for the game. Of course this is only a small fraction of what we are working on so stay tuned for further updates! 6. Hello all, We have released the ROSE Online updater as an open source project on GitHub: https://github.com/rednimgames/rose-updater. We were motivated to release our updater as open source because we felt that the community would benefit from being able to contribute to it or see the technical implementation. A few of our enterprising community members have already created scripts and alternative systems for supporting the updates on devices such as Mac OS or providing downloads for the game for those who can't access our downloads due to country restrictions. We recognize that for some players, being able to work on projects surrounding the game might be just as fun as playing the game. By releasing the updater as open source, we hope to empower these people to do more without with less restrictions. On the personal side, for many of us who are involved in the development currently, ROSE Online was a childhood inspiration. Several people on the team and many people that we know started off their careers in software thanks to working on ROSE Online passion projects. This is our way of returning that same experience that we had back to the community and we hope we can trigger a similar experience for others in the future. As time progresses we hope to extend this openness even further and hope to open source more things. One day we may release some tools for creating new weapons or items for the game for players to explore their creativity and perhaps even create new things that we can add! We hope to have a close relationship with our community and we would love to have as much community generated content as we can in the game.

  8. Hello everyone, we are preparing to deploy the Luna Clan Field update. We will start the server maintenance for the patch approximately 1hr 20mins Start time: 12PM ET (4PM GMT) End time: 12:30PM ET (4:30PM GMT)
  9. Hello Rosarians! Today we are releasing the Luna Clan Field Update! It has been some time in the making and we are happy to finally share it with all of you. Please make sure to check out the changelog to see all the changes we have been working on. Luna Clan Field Update In this update we have completely revamped Luna Clan Field and brought back the iconic Astarot Wings! Luna Clan Field is now designed for players around level 155. Players who are above level 180 will become the victims of the Astarot King's jealousy and will suffer from a PvP offensive and defensive de-buff while in the zone: The Astarot King has been made larger and stronger to tower over those who dare contest him. He will now spawn in the main room on a set timer with a coalition of Tirwins to help defend him from enemies. To secure his rare drops you'll need to be fast and strong to fight off your competitors in this wide open space. His drops have been adjusted to make each kill rewarding and worthy of conflict. For those motivated to take the risk, there are new rewards. Players now have a chance to loot the Astarot King's wings from his back after defeating him. These wings require players to be at least level 155 to wear and give player's the raw power of the Astarot King. However, to recover a pair of Astarot Wings from an Astarot King is tough and rare. Instead he is much more likely to drop gems, refines or feathers! Both Astarots and Astarot Kings now have the chance to drop Astarot Feathers which can be used to craft the powerful Wings of the Fallen Astarot! These wings are unique to the ROSE Online world as once they are crafted they come back to life! Animating and moving just as they would if they were attached to the Astarot King himself. wings.mp4 The Astarot King, and his smaller cousins the Astarot's, now have the chance to drop a new material: Astarot Feathers. These feathers are used to craft a new and powerful set of wings: Wings of the Fallen Astarot. Players will have to collect these feathers by killing Astarot Kings and Astarots or by dissasembling the precious Astarot wings. However, it will take a strong and well connected player to gather all the necessary materials to create the new wings: Players will need to brave the Sea of Dawn and fight the Fallen Judge Talratha in order to collect enough Frozen Sea Cystal's in order to craft their new pair of wings. Once crafted players will need to choose wisely whether they want to keep their wings as once the wing has been worn it will forever be bound to the brave player who tasted its power. Best of luck to all our players and see you in the clan fields! PVP Statuses We have added a new feature that shows enemy statuses (e.g. buffs/debuffs) when targeting them in PvP. This works similarly to how the "large hp bar" works when targeting NPCs or Mobs except we do not display the health bar in PvP. 10. Could be interesting if it works like the hammer tool, you can select your skill. It might be possible to implement it like that but we'd have to take a look. It's definitely something that's already on our radar.
  11. I remember a suggestion in the past about a "bullet bag" or "quiver" for bullets and arrows respectively. Something like that is interesting I think. Especially with the current drop tables, if you have like 5 stacks of arrows it really blocks your inventory when out in combat. Regardless, any change in this area is going to be tricky since it impacts inventory and slots.
  12. Yeah it's tedious, changing ammo to be a permanent equip is an interesting idea, especially if it can apply some effects...
  13. Hi, this was a regression after we changed some underlying libraries. This will be fixed in the next patch.
  14. Hello all, we're excited to release a new update today. This patch includes a variety of changes but a few that we wanted to highlight! PVP Balance We've heard player's feedback regarding PVP and made adjustments to some contentious skills for Clerics, Mages and Knights. The changes we've made here are based on feedback we've received from a variety of sources and players, including those that exclusively play PVM! We hope these adjustments will change the PVP landscape a little and provide more balanced gameplay. As always, nothing is set in stone and we will continue to make changes based on feedback and information we gather. For knights, we have converted the "Sacrifice" skill to be exclusively a PVM skill. This is a very strong skill that was quite dominant in PVP gameplay, especially in group dynamics. Knights will continue to be able to taunt their enemies using Impact Wave but will no longer be able to use Sacrifice in PVP. Down the road we would like to re-visit the taunting mechanic in general. For clerics, we have increased the cooldowns for Mana Shield (4 sec -> 6 sec), Salamander Flames (2.5 sec -> 6 sec) and Mana Flames (2.5 sec -> 6 sec). With this adjustment, we hope to see a reduction of Mana Shield/Flame "spam" in group PVP without a big impact on PVM. Finally, for mages we have reduced the scaling on some passives to reduce their maximum potential mana and increased the cooldown of the Fortified Mana Shield. Mana Shield scales on maximum mana so this will reduce the maximum defense the shield can provide while still maintaining the utility of the shield itself. Engine Upgrades This update we've made some pretty significant upgrades to the engine. From a technical perspective we have converted all the fixed function code to a shader pipeline. For our players, this should be a transparent change but you may experience a minor performance improvement depending on your hardware. However, our main motivation for these improvements was to invest in the future of ROSE Online and bringing it to modern standards. Converting the engine to shaders is the first step in a process to truly upgrading the engine. For example, going forward we can now upgrade to Directx10 then Directx11 or port our renderer to a new technology stack and leverage Vulkan or Directx12. With a modern graphics API we'll be able to implement new rendering techniques which opens a lot of opportunities for the future in terms of new visual features (GPU animations, lighting, shadows, etc.) and the potential for massive performance improvements. As a first experiment, we made some changes to the way water is rendered to add a blending effect which makes the whole animation much smoother: Personal Shop Saving Update In this patch we've made some changes to how personal shops work. Now, whenever you open your shop, the server will remember your listings for you so that if you disconnect or return to the game later you can quickly and easily setup your shop again. Additionally, we updated the shop interface so closing the shop window won't reset your listings. Now if you want to reset your shop you may use the new "reset" button (or drag out each item if that's your thing). While we believe these changes are a great quality of life improvement, they are also the beginnings of our larger vision for shops in general. In the future we will take the systems we built here and expand them into a new comprehensive shop system with offline-vending, multi-shop support and more! ...and more! We've made many more changes beyond these ones such as increasing the stats on Turak, adding a safe area on Sikuku Ruins, and improving game controller support. Make sure to checkout the full list of patch notes below. Thanks! Changes Gamepad Added ability to select character with left stick or dpad Added ability to control message boxes with gamepad (A: yes, B: no) Added ability to create a char using the Y button Added ability to delete a char with X Added ability to skip cutscenes with a gamepad (B or START) Added support for navigating quest item dialogs and event dialogs (ex. 15. Hello, a small patch to address a few issues caused by the last patch Changes Game Arena: Fix regression with summons giving kills Re-enable game arena Misc: Fix bug causing server disconnects randomly after character select If you have any feedback regarding this patch, please share it with us in this topic!
  16. Good afternoon, We are pushing out a new patch to re-enable game arenas and fix the disconnect issues some players are experiencing after character select. Maintenance Time: 2pm ET - 2:30pm ET (7pm GMT - 7:30pm GMT)
  17. Good morning all! Today we are releasing a new patch. Here are the changes: Changes: Game Arena: Increased the minimum required users for Akram Arena to 10v10 (max 15v15) Fixed a bug where summons killing other summons counted towards kill statistics Switched from IP to Machine ID restrictions for queuing and playing game arenas Misc: Added fix for performance issue that was causing lag spikes on the server Added fix for performance issue impacting Fossil Sanctuary Game Arena Restrictions Update In this patch we are rolling out a new feature that removes the IP restrictions on game arenas! We've implemented these measures to mitigate some of the game arena abuse reports we were receiving. While the IP restrictions were easy for us to roll out quickly, it was a crude solution that negatively impacted some players. We were sad that people in the same house or using the same VPN were limited in their ability to participate in game arenas together because of this restriction. We're happy to announce that game arena's are now restricted per machine! Players playing with their friends or loved ones can play in game arenas together if they share the same IP as long as they are on different computers. Players will still be limited to entering a game arena with only one character at a time. Game Arena Summon + Akram Arena Update In this update, we've corrected an issue where summon vs. summon kills were contributing to player kills and giving those players large game arena rewards. Players can still use their summons to get kills on other players but killing another player's summon no longer contributes to a player's battle statistics in game arenas. Additionally, with the increased activity in game arenas, we have reverted the player limits back to their original. We had previously reduced the minimum required players for Akram Arena since it was quite hard to start a game due to not as many players having reaching the end game. Now that game arenas are more active, we are reverting back to the original player numbers which will make Akram Arena battles larger and more exciting! Minimum Players Required (Akram Arena): 10v10 (previously 5v5) Server lag spikes + Fossil Sanctuary lag With this update, we are rolling out a change to improve the performance issue that was causing periodic lag spikes for our players as the server fell behind. Based on our testing, it appears that this was the same issue causing problems in Fossil Sanctuary and we are observing a noticeable performance improvement in Fossil as well. What's coming next As mentioned in our last update, the team last month reached a major milestone for server stability that has enabled us to shift our focus towards new content and game development. Already with this patch we were able to focus on more game related issues like the game arena updates. Our next major content update is going to be focused on revamping Luna Clan Fields and bringing back the infamous "Astarot Wings" to the game as a non-item mall item. We will share more details in the future but here is a sneak peak of our internal game design document for this update! In parallel to this project, here are a few things that are "in the works", i.e. we are actively planning and designing some changes in these areas: Drop tables (with a focus on early level zones and farming) Cleric/Mage mana shield tweaking Drop rate gems / clan skills Sikuku Ruins Turak Boss mob timer variability Vending - Remember shop listings for easy re-setup Engine graphics improvements Naturally we will share more information as these items develop! In the meantime, stay tuned for the LCF update! If you have any feedback regarding this patch, please share it with us in this topic!
  18. Good morning, We will be rolling out a new patch today that has some game arena focused changes. The patch should also address the lag spike problem we've been having the past few days and greatly improve the performance in fossil sanctuary. Please see the patch notes for details once we've published them as we'll also be sharing some details about upcoming things we are working on! Maintenance Time: 11:30am ET - 12pm ET (16:30pm GMT - 17:00 GMT)
  19. For the shield I'd have to look into the logistics of that because of the animations but we are tracking this request!
  20. Maintenance completed! Thanks for your patience.
  21. We are observing a performance degradation on our server at the moment that is causing lag on some maps. Maps that are particularly busy or were just the worst maps ever created before this situation (cough fossil sanctuary cough) are being impacted the most. We have identified the issue. However the fix will take a bit of time to implement and will require testing so we will postpone a hotfix and will restart the servers in 29 minutes. We will include the permanent fix in the next patch. The good news is that it looks like this issue might be e related to lag in Fossil Sanctuary! Maintenance time: 11:30am ET - 12:00pm ET
  22. Hey, sorry. We thought one of our fixes would prevent this but looks like it's still an issue. We're working on it but the past few patches we prioritized due to their impact so lots of updates past few days.
  23. This is a quick and small patch to fix an issue where a file was getting too much data written into it due to some debug tools left enabled. For some players this was causing stuttering and other issues. We recommend deleting this file if it has gotten too large, the file is located at %LOCALAPPDATA%/Rednim Games/ROSE Online/data/zz_log.txt To delete it, open file explorer and input %LOCALAPPDATA%/Rednim Games/ROSE Online/data/ then the file can be safely deleted: Changes: Misc: Fixed zz_log.txt file getting too large
  24. Maintenance has been completed, thank you
