  1. It's something we've talked about internally several times. From a technical perspective there is not an issue for us to support this but we lack the resources currently to re-do every single avatar texture in the game to support this. Regardless, it's something we'd like to invest into in the future.

  2. Hello all!

I am glad to announce we will be conducting our public Alpha Stress Test next Friday on August 12th! We will be opening up our alpha server to the community to connect so we can observe how our systems handle many players. It's going to be a good bit of chaotic fun! Our team will be online spawning mobs, dropping items and doing all kinds of crazy things to put our servers under stress. The servers will be open for the weekened from Aug 12 until Aug 14th. Depending on how the testing goes, we may need a second stress test. Otherwise, the stress test will officially mark the end of our alpha testing and the beginning of our transition towards closed beta.

We will make a follow up announcement later next week with details on how to connect to the alpha stress test and with a link to download the client.

We're also happy to announce the launch of the website! We've implemented several new features on the website that we'll slowly be unveiling in the coming weeks. Make sure to stop by and check it out https://www.roseonlinegame.com/.

    Hope to see you there!

    Event: Alpha Stress Test

  3. Hi all, this thread is getting heated so I am going to lock it. If you'd like to continue discussing elements from this conversation then please start a new thread with those specific discussion points.

Regarding the original question, we did consider rewriting the project in Unreal Engine and even have an internal prototype with all the game assets imported into the engine and basic combat/networking. However, we opted not to go down this route as it would essentially mean remaking the entire game from scratch. This is not a small undertaking and would have taken years, our original estimate was 3 years to bring the remake to feature parity. Instead we opted to continue where the game was left off and slowly iterate on it. Will we ever switch engines? Maybe, maybe not, but our current priority is to revive the game and the community. It has already taken us longer than we anticipated to relaunch the game and we would not work on anything to delay that further.

    All the best.

Junon Polis won't be the same without all of the shops but I do get your point.  Moving around in a crowded area can be difficult and laggy depending on your pc and internet connection.

I agree, I don't think we'd want to eliminate the dense shops all together but having the walkways cleared and requiring some minimum distance between shops so they don't clip into each other would probably help make it look less like a wall of shops. Probably could use a feature to hide shops as well as they're actually a big source of performance issues.

  5. Very true, I think we take for granted that not everyone in our community is in our discord. I copied the announcements to the forum here

. In the future I'll make sure the announcements makes it the forum as well!

Hi all, it's been a bit since we've made an official announcement but we wanted to let everyone know we are hard at work pushing towards closed beta. We are still targeting a summer release for closed beta and are hoping to invite a big batch of beta testers. If you want to be involved in the closed beta test make sure you have an official account at https://www.roseonlinegame.com/ as we'll be sending invites to the emails registered there. Currently we don't have any major game related announcements to make as we've been focusing on technical work for the closed beta. Although we did drop a sneak peek of an interesting feature we are working on in the media-share channel. If you're interested in the nitty gritty of our development we release a weekly technical blog on Ko-Fi with our must recent update available at https://ko-fi.com/post/Dev-Update-5--Living-the-coal-mine-goblin-worker-R6R8CU7G2 We'll plan to have another public announcement or community stream in the upcoming weeks so we can share some details with the wider community. In the meantime, thank you for all your patience and we're excited to be bringing ROSE back!

Hi all, we just posted update #6 to Ko-Fi (https://ko-fi.com/post/Dev-Update-6--Another-day-in-Junon-E1E4CYVT7). Mostly some technical issues and discussions in that post. The main thing is that a big project to permanently fix duping is currently in the final steps. Once that piece is in place then we will be able to focus on final items on the server side for the beta (still working on client/website/tooling/etc.). Internally we've started putting in the plans or the next public announcement. We are deciding on the format and the content we want to present. It will take us a few weeks to put it together, thanks!

  7. We haven't posted any public announcements recently as we are pushing through technical work to get us to Closed Beta this summer. This work is mostly low-level and not very interesting to most players. Once we have some feature updates or timeline updates we will make another update. If you'd like to follow us more closely our discord is pretty active (https://discord.gg/roseonline) and if your interested in the gamedev nitty gritty we share a technical update once a week with our supporters on Ko-Fi.

  9. We already plan to support Mac in the future (several of our team use macbooks) but it will take some time for us to be able to support it. In the meantime, if players want to test via wine or proton then we'd be happy to make adjustments to make them work better using those emulation layers.
